Rachel Ruston
Paraplanner
“I love being a Paraplanner. I really enjoy writing reports for our clients and helping them to achieve their financial goals. We have a great team here at Wealth Matters and I’m fortunate enough to be able to flex my working hours around my family life. This means I won’t miss out on those important ‘first’ moments while also having a deeply fulfilling career.”
Profile
I have worked in financial services ever since I graduated university. I now have over 12 years industry experience and prior to joining the Wealth Matters team, I worked for four and a half years at Transact as a Client Services Manager in the city. I joined Wealth Matters in June 2016 as a trainee paraplanner and became Diploma qualified in early 2017 having started the Diploma my studies in 2016. I have also completed The STEP Certificate for Financial Services (Trusts and Estate Planning).
Having started my own family in June 2019 – first having had my little boy, and then my little girl in April 2021 – I took an extended maternity leave and returned to Wealth Matters in April 2022. I am now an experienced paraplanner and Wealth Matters accommodates me working flexibly to suit my family commitments – working three days a week with flexible hours. This enables me to still be there for the children and to not miss out on those special moments.
As a paraplanner, I mostly deal with preparing client reports as well as completing complex calculations. My favourite aspect of financial planning is probably cash flow modelling. I enjoy problem solving and helping clients achieve their financial goals when they may have before seemed out of reach.
Outside of work I love spending time with my family, going on nature walks, baking cakes (and eating them!) and anything crafty.
